Expanding My Repertoire As An Author
I’ve had an epiphany a few days ago. When it comes to this indie author business, the person I should really trust the most ought to be myself. Even if I had all the money to outsource my imagination to the hands of other people, how can I be sure they can really capture what I had in mind? That’s when it hit me: I don’t know if I could really visualize what I write myself! It doesn’t matter how good my ideas are. As things stand right now, they’re like farts: they come out of my ass and then dissipate with only traces of its memory lingering in my mind!
The long and short of it is that writing’s not gonna be enough. I’m going to get back into drawing. I’m going to relearn art. I’m going to create the cover designs of my books myself someday. I know it will take a long while, but I’d rather spend time than money. I also know this will be a risk, but I’ll never know how good that little nerd who loved to illustrate I used to be years ago unless I try. As I redevelop my drawing skills in the meantime, I’ll still seek out local artists for my cover designs, what have you. But who knows how quickly I’ll improve. It will probably be just like riding a bike.
I really think this is what I have to do to surpass my limits as an author. And like they say, if you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself!
